Wired and wireless problem on laptop

I have a Turion laptop based on an MSI platform. I used the wired and wireless (Intel based) on this laptop for almost an entire year with no problems. Just a couple weeks ago, I was able to connect to both wired and wireless networks, but I had no connection to the Internet. No application that required a connection would work. However, I had a correct IP address (ie, not 169.168.etc). I did not change any of my network adapter settings or anything. One day it was fine and the next it wasn't. I was a little desperate for a connection after this, so I purchased a wireless network card in hopes it would work. It did. So, my question now is, what would affect both my wired ethernet port and the built in wireless in my laptop? Any ideas?

Edit: Few things I forgot. Using Windows XP Home edition on the laptop. I've also tried it on a couple different networks and that is not the problem. The computer I'm using now is on the home network and is working fine.

In General you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer?s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two.Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

If need to Reinstall; Log to this page it have a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html.

Thank you for the tips there. It seems that fixing Winsock with the linked program fixed my wireless network. I am now able to connect and actually use the connection. However, my wired is still broken, and it seems in a different way now. I can no longer even get an IP address. I get the "Limited or no connectivity" error when I try to use a wired connection. I went through all the steps mentioned except a reinstall. Do you mean just a reinstall of the drivers for the ethernet adapter? or a reinstall of Windows XP?

If the Wireless works you probably need to reinstall the drivers and may be the protocols and settings of the second card, the rest should be fine.
