Wire gauge/power question

RU482

Lifer
This one's a little off the wall.

How much current, at ~20Vdc, would a copper braid consisting of 64 strands of 42 gauge wire be able to safely conduct?

It's 64 strands of 42 AWG. That is pretty thick. As a fast guess, I would say 20A.

EDIT:
Together, that is between 6-7AWG.

7 AWG, for power = 30A
6 AWG, for power = 37A

I calc about 1.4 amps nominal.

46AWG= 0.001568 inches

46AWG = 0.0225 amps max current

64*0.0225 amps = 1.4 amps

no, not homework help. We're trying to sub in some solder braid we have for another type of braid, and I can't find an online calculator for current capabilities of multi conductor wire.
