If I wipe my Inspiron 9300's hard drive completely, can I install Windows XP/Vista as if I had built a desktop?

I would guess yes, but I'm just making sure.
 
Sure. Just make sure you have your drivers you need like any special storage drivers and network drivers so you can get back online.
