I just installed 8.1 on my fully updated Win2k system. Whenever I open a self extracting exe, the little window opens like it's supposed to, with the "unzip" and "run winzip" buttons on the right. Unzip works fine. If I click "run winzip", another window pops up saying winzip is not installed. Any ideas? Winzip works fine when I start it with its own exe.

Well my first guess would be to check the registry.

I found several entries in my registry that pointed to the Winzip Executable in my program files directory. I don't know how winzip works with the self extractor but I'm assuming the Button "Run Winzip" Looks for a registry key (probably in either HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, or HKEY_CURRENT_USER and executes a shell based on the path found in the registry.

THere's a bunch of Winzip Entries on my machine, but I'd pay attention to the following HIVES:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\APPlications\Winzip32.exe

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NIKO MAK COMPUTING
