Anybody else doing the WinXP x64 SP2 beta? I got my image burnt today and got together all my drivers together for an install later tonight. If anyone is curious I can post non NDA violating feedback.

As I said, I know Vista is what it's all about these days, but x64 is more interesting to me. I still like Windows XP after all. :)

I'm running Windows XP x64 as my everyday operating system on my main workstation, so I'd be pleased to hear whatever info you're allowed to dispense regarding a future service pack for XP x64. :)

The install went smoothly, it seems like the beta code is already quite mature.

speedstream5621, it's mostly a rollup of all the security fixes that have come along since the inception of WinXP x64.

ProviaFan, as I said above, the OS is smooth and looks/acts just like SP1. Kind of ho hum, eh? :)

Yeah, but that it "just works" is a good thing. I tried Vista, but it was too different and too problematic to get any work done. Returning to the nimble and lightweight XP x64 after a week of Vista was quite refreshing.

Anyway, since x64 has by default the things MS added to XP with SP2, and since it doesn't really need any more features, I guess I'll look forward to XP x64 SP2 mainly for the convenience of slipstreaming security updates in case I ever need to reinstall. :)

It just doesn't seem like we have had enough updates to warrant a SP, but I guess it makes sense if it is a rollup as was done for 2K's SP4.

I really hope the Core 2 Duos are affordable...I'd like to be able to use x64 in college. I don't think I'd ever bother with a CPU upgrade for a laptop.

My thoughts exactly. And I'd assume that by then MS would have a version of WMP11 that works in a 64bit environment. That is the one and only thing that I don't like about SP2 so far, no WMP11.
