Just make sure you have your sata drivers on a floppy before you install. I almost forgot mine. Enjoy RC2 I am. I think there will be a another one before RTM.

what SATA controller do you have?

So what exactly can you do with x64 Windows? I mean, is there anything that actually takes advantage of the OS? Any "killer" apps?

FarCry 64 is coming soon and I believe that Chronicles of Riddick already has 64bit executables (or so it's been rumored) but nothing atm beyond checking it out.

With that they should be able to proccess 'double percision' floating point numbers much quicker, which should help out with the quality of the graphics a bit and speed a bit.

Also the AMD64 native instructions are more streamlined and efficient then the ia32 stuff in 'compatability' mode so you should see a 8-10% increase in performance in games that are very cpu intensive. That doesn't have much to do with the '64bit-ness' per say, it's just general archatectural improvements.

32 bit apps run equally fast regardless of the XP version.. lot of websites have done this analysis..

in my case, Halo PC gives me the same framerates in both 32-bit XP or x64 XP.

So are all the latest 32-bit games working normally in Windows64bit, or are there compatibility issues?

i'm running HL2 on amy amd64 3k+, asus sli, 6600gt.. everything is cranked to high including AF and AA.. 60fps+ framerates. No stability issues.

Okay, I'm stumped. How do you do that? my nforce4 drivers (kit) from nvida is 38 megs. How do you get an a: drive accessible driver setup to load?

Thanks for any help.

You just need to copy the SATA drivers off the disk. On the disk, their may be a utility that will copy an image of the drivers onto the disk

seattle - can you help me identify the sata drivers? when I loaded xp64 I got a "cannot load operating system" error each time at boot. I assume that's because the "makedisk" utility I downloaded from asus did not work.

any links?

thx.
Mike

nice system u have there! must have cost you a pretty penny..

did you burn the RC2 ISO to a CD and boot from it? I'm guessing the OS already has compatible 64-bit SATA drivers which it should load..

I'm running eide.. so I'm a SATA noob too.

You shouldnt need any drivers. If you are using the SATA controller provided by the nForce4 chipset, SATA is supported natively.

I don't think floating point changed at all for x86-64.
