Just read this....

"Thanks NeoWin. If you buy a new PC with Windows XP installed on it, you WON'T have to deal with Windows Product Activation (WPA)! That's because the version of XP that ships with new PCs will be tied only to that PC's BIOS, which means that you can swap out every hardware component on the system (including the motherboard, incidentally, as long as you use one the same PC maker supplies) as often as you want, and XP will never ask you to reactivate it. And if you restore the system by using the PC maker-supplied restore CD-ROMs, activation isn't required, ever. This information affects about 90 percent of the people who will eventually use XP, so it's great news"

Hmmm... since it said you should use the same PC maker supplies, so those who bought the branded PC can't upgrade their hardware then?

Of course you can upgrade. The OEM pre-installed OSes are pre-activated.....you simply need to call up MS if you wanted to upgrade.

What a PITA...🙁

The hassle involved with contacting Microsoft every time you make a hardware upgrade is ridiculous.

Good thing I obtained WinXP Pro.

😛

There are future problems some of you guys never thought of yet.

- What happens if M$ decides your copy of XP is invalid and decline to activate for you, but in fact, the copy is genuine?
- What happens if M$ decides NOT to support XP anymore? Can you still activiate? What if they decide not to activate anymore when THEY think the OS is obsolete?

... Think about it, guys.
