WinXP WPA cracked?

I don't think it really means anything new for M$. The amount of money lost to piracy is likely piddly compared to all the loot they rake in on Compaq/Dell/etc that come "Pre-loaded with Windows XP!".

It's just like the RIAA and mp3's: the more the company tries to crack down or make piracy more difficult, the more it pisses the hackers/crackers off and the more determined they are to f*ck Microsoft or the RIAA over in any way they can.

<< Old news, it was cracked before XP was even released. >>

Not in this fashion. Did you read the article? Someone's developed a keygen for it.

True, but I mean the issue of cracking WPA. I have a feeling a windows update or SP will kill this one because it is a major f*ckup.

Isn't it possible though, that M$ keeps a database of all keys issued? If so, they can simply do a check when a user tries to update XP via windows update and fry that installation if the key isn't in their database.

Yeah, pirates are classy folks. It's bad enough when you pirate the software. By using this key generator, you may well be using someone elses key.

but if a valid key is generated, how will MS know to can that account when the key does indeed match one in their database? More likely they'll fry the account of the poor sod who buys the copy off the shelf with the same key already generated and registered as they will think the second guy has a pirated copy.

Do you know what the chances are of something like that happening??

<<

<< Or you could just avoid all this crap in the first place and use a corporate version 😛 >>

or you could buy it.
>>

Meh...that's for suckers. 😉

<< or you could buy it. >>

Wrong. That's my whole beef with the MS activation scheme. It inconveniences the legitimate buyers into jumping trough stupid hoops, having to register your product with the company (privacy issues), etc etc, while the pirates will go on their merry little way anyway. I use the corp version because I am absolutely positively not going to jump through hoops.

This keygen is a great thing!! MS can't 'break' it with a service pack either, because there's already millions of copies out there on the shelves with the current keys. To whatever group created the keygen, I salute you!

you are just a theif. you claim you dont want to jump through hoops. it TAKES 15seconds. yeah soppose in that 15 seconds you can download a porn pic. either way i fyou dont want to register it or have M$ looking at your data. wich i agree is sh** then go BUY the product and use the corp version.

OH you know you jumped through more hoops getting the corp version then if you just registerd the damn thing? heh theif

Anyone know if a service pack will detect the corp version and freeze it or something?

or is the one that is floating around actually in use in corporations.

I would never have XP pro or home simply because I format occasionally and add/remove hardware very frequently as well as I don't like having spyware on my machine.

So the question as regards keymaking software is whether or not Microsoft has any way to differentiate between generated keys and the ones it has issued itself.

give it time.

Your 5th amendment rights supercede M/S's right to investigate. Its why the software police only go after companies that had whistle-blowers turn them in. If they snooped on you, imagine the consequences...

Listen up dipwad, perhaps if you're going to post, you might want to:

1. Learn to spell - its "Thief", not "theif".
2. Learn how to read: Does it say anywhere that I didn't buy the 'regular' version or even where I got my copy? No, it doesn't. The reason I have the corporate version is because I work for a *gasp* corporation, and I receive it as part of an ongoing pilot program to evaluate XP.
3. Learn to think: I didn't jump through more hoops to get the corporate version, see #2. Also, perhaps to you it's just "15 seconds", but you have to re-do it whenever you decide to do a system overhaul and put new components in. If you're overseas and don't have access to the internet on a particular PC, you have to call MS, which is expensive if you can't call 1-800 numbers for free. There are plenty of other reasons not to like the stupid WPA.

Next time think before jumping to conclusions.

To everyone who is saying it's old news; this is new!

It's a KEY GEN that generates a key for WPA. The old way you're talking about was through registry and all kinda bullcrap cracks. This is NEW, very NEW.
