I am using WD raptor installed winxp.

the other drive i have is another drive of Hitachi 80gb sata also installed winxp sp2.

under bios, it shows that it is connected under forth ide master.
raptor on third ide master.

now when i boot up, it will just load my raptor's xp without asking anything or any delay.
under device manager/disk drives

i only see raptor but not my hitachi, what's the problem?

Is the BIOS seeing the drive? Have you tried disconnecting the raptor to see if it shows up again?

A "fourth" IDE master would have to be connected to an integrated non-native controller. You need the drivers for that controller.

i got both installed winxp sp2.

but i haven't tried to just to connect one drive on fourth ide master, but on third ide master, there is no problem for both drives.

I need drivers for that ????!!!! weird..
both drives do show up in the bios. but not both in winxp.

The bios is refering to SATA port 1 as the 3rd IDE master, and SATA port 2 as 4th IDE master..SATA drives are still IDE drives..

If you were able to install windows, you don't need any additional drivers. Something else is wrong, which is why I suggested to disconnect the raptor to see if the other drive will boot up. Were both drives in while you were installing windows? That seems to cause a problem sometimes if you have more than one hard drive while installing windows to a SATA drive. If you can boot from the hitachi after disconnecting the raptor, try swapping them(put the hitachi on the sata port the raptor is currently on, and the raptor on the one the hitachi is currently on).

i installed winxp on each drives seperately.

I don't want my Raptor drives to mess up with the other drive.
the other drive is only for storage.. so the setting in (winxp) which i don't really want to keep.
but i still want to keep the media files.

I would like to bring up thsi topic again, as i am a little bit free from work.

my problem again is,

any drives(physical drives) that i put/connect to the 4th IDE master, the bios can recognize it(inside bios), but in windows, it just like disappeared.

what is the solution, i am running out of space ...
I have another 80GB of hitachi waiting..

Swapping the drives around will not mess anything up, if you don't try it, you will never be able to get to the cause of the problem..

Hi all....

just like i said, anything i put on the 4th ide master, winxp can't detect it.,, including the raptor drive.

do i need to install drivers or do a bios setup to open the 4th ide master channel?
