I recently noticed my volume control and mute stopped working... the wave control works fine...the rest of the audio and controls work fine ...except the systray volume and mute do nothing.
im using a chaintech vnf-250 ive tried reinstalling with 2 dif realtek ac 97 drivers one was the newest beta and i also tried the cmedia ac97 drivers but the same results.
any ideas?

Did you remove old drivers first? Changed speakers lately? My neice had a problem like that, I had to hook up powered speakers or she would only get very low volume.

Try replacing the file windows\system32\Sndvol32.exe with the version on your Windows CD.

thanks for the tips. Ive tried switching speakers and using headphones but it doesnt seem to change anything. the master volume control and the mute all check box just dont work.
I booted into safe mode and replaced the sndvol32.exe file with the one i extracted for winxp cd but same thing happens. one other thing im going to try is to remove the CMR chaintech 5.1 audio card that i dont use but it came with the mobo so i installed it...maybe the volume control is affecting its output instead of the regular mobos output.

also I tried with the nvidia audio driver in the latest nforce package and got the same result. the audio sounds fine.. i can adjust the volume on my speakers or using the wave control slider....its mainly pissing me off because my new wireless kb has a dial that turns the master volume up and down and a mute button...they work as far as the slider moves up and down and the mute puts an x on the systray icon....but it doesnt affect sound output.

I since disabled the onboard audio on my vnf-250 and installed an old sb live card and this fixed the problem.

however im still having this issue with a high pitched sound. its very noticable and it happens with both the sb live and the onboard audio. its more persistant with the sb live and more intermittent with the onboard realtek audio. The only way ive found to get the sound to stop is removing the sb live and disabling the onboard audio.

its not coming from my speakers its coming from the motherboard or maybe psu? although i can slightly hear it from the speakers its still there when they are unplugged and turned off.
im ready to rma this board because the sound has been very annoying. i have a sonata and it makes it even worse like i want to add 4 fans to cover the noise. plus the volume control issues i was having with the onboard sound.

sorry for all the posts....if anyone is actually reading this thread I finally fixed this issue

I dont know why or how but i flashed back to the original bios instead of the 7/29 update i was using and the high pitch sounds went away. Im suspecting the old bios will solve my volume control and mute issue as well but i havnt removed the sb live yet to see...
