WinXP Virtual Memory

I'd really like to shut off Virtual Memory, to limit disk hits. I'm using 1 gig of RAM, and usage rarely hits about 75%. But when I'm playing 3D games, I get low mem messages and lousy performance. I enabled virtual mem, and the problem goes away, even though RAM usage is the same. STUPID WINDOWS. In my next PC, I going for quiet, quiet, quiet. Hybrid HDD's won't be on the market for a while. If I install 2 GB, will that be enough to satisfy Windows? Maybe there's another work-around?

It's impossible to turn off virtual memory, the only way to disable it is to run an OS that doesn't support it, like DOS.

You can't disable VM, but you can disable the page file (a part of VM), which is probably what your asking. If you have enough RAM you can disable the PF, but I you won't see any benefits because your not using the PF much at all because you have enough RAM (IE more RAM than commit charge).
