hi,

i have some question regarding to virtual memory..

my system is running winxp with 512mb ram..

under system property/advance/performance/adance, i set my virtual memory(pagefile) to 50mbs.. i only have 1 page file.

when i run system information, it reports that i have a page file of 533.93 mb..

how come they aren't the same? the path of the page file is right..

You should be able to see how big your pagefile really is by looking for the hidden file "pagefile.sys" on your computer. Unless they've changed it in XP... I know that this works under NT 4.0 and 2k...

It's probably XP working around people setting their page file too small or trying to disable it, although 530M seems a little large.

I have a problem with virtual memory in Win XP Pro. I am using Win XP Pro with 256MB SD RAM computer. No matter how I set my virtual memory, like...

Initial 192, Max 384
Initial 384, Max 384
Initial 512, Max 512

or

Let Windos decide how large

I will get a message whenever I restart the computer or shut down, the message says something like virtual memory is low, Windows is trying to increase it, when you open an high memory demanded application you may have some bad performance... (This is not the exact phase but the idea is same)

What can I do now to avoid this message? Add RAM or make some change in setting??

Please help and thanks in advance.
