WinXP Updates to steer clear from (?)

Hi Guys/Gals,

Clearing out all the Spyware/Adware/Malware Viri for my Sister in law on her XPpro machine, and noticed she has never ran windows update.

I heard there are some issues with SP1 (bugs that may be addressed in SP2?)
So I was going to just DL all updates individually. (Or should I just DL and install SP1 and be done with it.)

Currently a Win98 user myself (I know, I know don't laugh), I haven't really kept up on what XP updates potentially hose what.

So my question is.....

Are there certain updates to steer clear from?
(ie. known buggy, or instability causing, or performance degradation bonus feature, etc.)

Thanks for any info you can share.

My advice is to install the SP2 RC2 version that is available then install the final version in a month or two when it's out.

just install them all, I stay away from .net if its not needed, but it still shouldnt hurt anything.

SP2 RC2 is very stable too, it really is worth a try

I dunno, more and more utilities/shareware require it now a days, I'd recommend just getting it over with so you don't get weird questions from your family later.

Apply all critical updates without question. Anything else is optional.

Set them up for automatic updates while you're at it.

I agree. More and more software is being built to use the framework. I've pushed it down to over 500 desktops and we haven't had a problem with a single one of them.
