since quite a lot of ppl are running winxp now, i thought a tweaking thread might be in order? for ppl to post suggestions, etc

I think the most obvious tweak is in the System Properties, Advanced, Performance Setting button. Check the "Adjust for best Performance." The only thing I check in the box below this "smooth edges of screen fonts." All the other settings are the performance hogging eye-candy that people talk about.
