WinXP & TCP/IP

I am just curious how WinXP knows my TCP/IP settings, Server Addresses (Primary and Secondary DNS) in Dialup networking. I certainly don't mind not having to type these and everything works but how does it know?

There are several proticols for tcp/ip setting.

DHCP is one often used (Dynamic Host Configuration Proticol) and I also beleive that PPP also includeds it's own proticol.
