Yes, I'm new to WindowsXP; just finally ditched Win98SE (of course not all my hardware is supported - my scanner doesn't even have Win2k/NT support:(). I use my C: as primary, D: as extra storage. I notice that both drives have a "System Volume Information" folder - the one on C: is 50MB, but the one on my D: is almost 450MB! Are they both needed? I didn't see any mention of them in the Help Menu, or the FAQ's here.
Sorry if this is a newbie-ish question.

Yes, you need those files! I don't think the system would let you delete them even if you wanted to.

Dude, just hide system files and folders. 99% of the time you don't need to see them.

I finally used Google to look for this, and it's System Restore related. I found out how to adjust it. I can see why it's important to have it on the System drive, but I don't know that I'd even need it on my secondary drive, as there's no apps installed there.

I always want to see all files. Especially when they suck up 450MB of HD space. I like to know where my space is going. ;)

The System Volume Information folder is where WinXP stores the info it needs for the System Restore feature. Please leave the folder as it is or else U might have probs when U wanna try a System Restore.

Also, If U really wanna get that space back, U can do this ... But I would not advise it.
When U turn off System Restore feature on the drives, It will delete all the info from the System Volume Information folder. But before U do that make sure that the system is working perfectly. Then after turning it off, reboot the computer and then turn it back on again. Voila... Those folders will have a lot less info in them. Like I said, its at your own risk.

Hope this helped and Good Luck and I would recommend taking Killbat's advice
