WinXP SP2 won't install

SP2 will begin to copy files over, but then installation will stop when it tries to copy pchsvc.dll & installation fails. I've tried to update 3 times now; twice over the after I unpacked the download.exe, & once locally just by running the download.exe. I've downloaded the .exe twice as well.

Furthermore, during installation, a window pops up from my systray telling me that $MFT is corrupted & to run chkdsk. I've run chkdsk twice on reboots & it hasn't found anything to fix.

Anyone know what pchsvc.dll is or what it does?

Microsoft PCHealth Service Holder

Aside from the name I'm not sure what it does; I'd call MS PSS, their support is free for SP issues.

Hmmm. This sounds like something I used on a beta test sometime last year for Microsoft. Were you by any chance beta testing a PC Health app for Microsoft in the past year?

No, no beta testing, but yeah, that's about all I can find on pchsvc.dll. I can see it in my local directory tree, & in the unpacked service pack directory tree too. So the file is there, but it's not copying over my local copy for some reason. I honestly don't even have any clue what the MS PC Health thing is, & I'd un-install it if it meant that I could update successfully....
