WinXP SP2: When a file is being downloaded in Internet Explorer, where is it while it's downloading?

you are dl a file. you picked a directory to save it. when the dl is complete, it shows up there.

but while it's dl'ing, where is the file being stored?

I thought they were just in your temp folder until the whole thing was downloaded. in firefox, it saves it in the same directory as a *.part file, iirc.

afaik it won't name the file the same as what you chose to download it as. it will be some cryptic name with bunch of letters and numbers. once the file is completely downloaded, then it puts the different parts of the file together, and places them in the spot that you chose to place them as one file.
