WinXP SP2 loading kind of slow

So I've just assembled a brand new system, installed all the progs but it seems to me that Windows XP Pro SP2 is loading kind of slow for the specs I got. I guess it takes over a minute - or 1 min 30 secs to load up. I installed the latest drivers for my chipset and videocard but it didn't help much. The time it takes to boot is even longer than it took on my older P4 socket 478 non-SATA PC. I also noticed that the system loads much faster without any drivers installled. Do you think there a simple (or not so simple) solution to this problem? Or am I asking too much?

Thank you very much in advance.

The specs are in my signature.

how many RPMs is your HDD did you partion your HDD(not sure if this makes a difference or not in speed but I think it does)

Does it take a long time at the "Windows XP" loading screen? For the desktop to load? What specific part of the boot process seems to take the longest time?

Do you have an anti-virus installed? Firewall? What other software do you have running at startup?

When I first built my X2 system, I foolishly installed nvidia's ide driver. That driver would cause windows to stall at the windows loading screen for at least 30 seconds while the hard drive churned for no reason whatsoever.

I reformatted and installed only the SMBus and Network Driver (No ActiveArmor or Network Control Center crap) and it works great.

Yep, it does take a long time at the Windows XP black logo screen. At first the HD blinks fast for several times and then it just stops and nothing happens for two minutes. The desktop loads pretty much instanteneous. I have Norton Internet Security installed. Windows firewall is disabled. No other firewalls are installed.

I installed the complete chipset drivers packacge and I guess it includes the nVidia IDE driver. I'd hate to reinstall Windows, because the system is stable and works good. Even the gaming is smooth. I only wish applications loaded up a little bit faster. I have some sort of a shot delay sometimes when I open Word or Excel documents, it takes 2-3 seconds.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

- Delete the NVIDIA IDE driver and use the standard Microsoft Driver.
- Try uninstalling or at least fully disabling Norton Internet Security. Most Symantec products are notoriously resource intensive and consume a lot of processor power. Temporarily unplug your internet connection during testing if you're concerned about internet intruders.
- If you're familiar with the Windows registry, check to make sure you aren't loading unnecessary applications during the boot process (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
