winxp sp2 japanese non-unicode font problem

Basically i switched my language for non-unicode (under Regional Settings) setting to install some japanese applications.. but the fonts are all messed up. It doesn't look messed up on desktop, but it does when i want to install or uninstall or delete something(applies to all programs whether japanese or not)... the font is BOLD and Tiny..

Anyway to fix this problem? i have all the most recent windows update.. Is there anyway to set the font style/size for a particular non-unicode language?
