winxp-sp2 internet access issues

i just reinstalled winxp onto my dell laptop with the dell recovery cd, and downloaded sp2 and all the patches from microsoft.com ... now i notice that IE will fail to even load google.com after running bitcomet for a while. ssh works fine when i use an IP.

this leads me to suspect if somehow the dns/nslookup functions on my laptop is messed up by bitcomet use. this happens after minutes or hours.

could this be possible?

what should i be looking for?

fwiw, it doesnt seem bitcomet thats doing it. after leaving my laptop alone for a few hours. i can't ping yahoo.com ... nslookup seems to work as per normal, and pinging an yahoo.com's IP seems to work. but "ping www.yahoo.com" fails thus:

C:\>ping www.yahoo.com
Ping request could not find host www.yahoo.com. Please check the name and try again.

Did you tweak any internet related settings? What type of connection are you using? Try re-installing the protocols like TCP/IP, etc.

Edit - Or as stated above check your firewall, if you are using any.

that particular laptop is in the dmz. i recently installed winxp sp2 on it ... it didnt seem to exhibit these issues when it was on win2k.
