I ordered my SP2 CD from Microsoft to have on hand and the 4-6 weeks really meant "3-4 days" :) so you might do that. Or I hear you can get free SP2 CDs from places like Frys and Best Buy.

why not just turn on automatic updates and let it:
a. only pull down the pieces you need (you probably only need ~100 out of the ~266 megs)
b. pull down over time in the background (unless you're in a hurry to get it)

Microsoft does ship CD's very fast. You may be better off doing it that way.

I had a lot of trouble trying to get pieces of updates over dial up, if I disconnected mid download I either wouldn't be able to resume the download because the stupid update program thought I already downloaded it, or I'd finish downloading something only to find there was a glitch and the update wouldn't install properly. After wasting hours trying and failing to download useless updates, I ended up requesting the CD from microsoft (which came in about a week) and then let the additional updates that have come out since SP2 was released download overnight. Broadband is nice and all but I can't stomache an additional $30/ month just to install some updates that I could get on a CD for free, I have a feeling MS knows that thier updates don't work well with dial-up so they offer a CD as consolation to those who don't have broadband.

on my XP SP1 with all other updates, MS site estimates this service pack to be 73 Mb to download.

P.S. even though having ADSL I still refuse to install this SP2 and my PC feels good about it.:).

it's this big:
|---------------------------|

Which if you go for the update install means you're looking at 65 -> 90Mb

The full standalone update for admins is 270Mb.

Depends on what kind of connection you have. 56k = order disk, ADSL = download it!

Do you not have a friend that could lend you his ADSL connection for a wee while?

You should really slipstream SP2 into your windows cd if you get the. There plenty of free programs that work great. I used AutoStreamer.

it could be quite slow for microsoft to mail you the disc
you may also ask a buddy write it into a cd for you

You don't need a special program to slipstream xp: Link-o-matic

but they probably make it easier if you're not confident.

Ordered the CD....no charge, free shipping.

Got email confirmation --delivery in 4 - 6 weeks .....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dialup connection is usually around 51,000 bps which is about as fast as you get

The 110mb download (thanks 02psd4me) would take around 6 hours ,,if all went well.

Nap Time .................
