I just got my Asus A8N-SLI, AMD 64 3200+ and my Geforce 6600 GT yesterday. After installing all the hardware into my machine I reformatted and reinstalled windows fine.

Once I installed the nforce4 drivers off the Asus CD and windows blue screened on me and the only way I could fix it was to goto last known good config. So as per someones suggestions I downloaded the nforce4 standalones off nvidia's website and that did not work.

At this point I am at a loss as to why Windows is crashing when trying to install the chipset drivers.

I also upgraded my bios to 1003 to see if that would remedy the problem.

Nvidia has their own IDE driver thats installed with their chipset drivers. I believe you have the option of not installing it, because some systems do not like this driver. I'm on NF3, however, not nf4 but I can't imagine it being any different. Just click no on the ide driver and that should help.

Do have hardware resources controlled by OS in bios? And it would be a pain but maybe you could try to load each chipset driver function seperately, ie., IDE, then AGP, then USB, ect., untill it locks up?

Is there anyway to install the IDE SW drivers in the nforce4 standalone drivers without making Windows crash?

Has anyone else had the same problems as me when trying to install these? The only other thing I have loaded in my PC currently is the 6600 GT drivers.

bump for some help.

And my bios is controlling my hardware resources. I haven't made any major changes in my bios except disabling the com ports, parallel port and audio.

well after some troubleshooting, I figured out that out of all my hard drives and optical drives my BenQ 8x DVD-RW Dual format/Dual layer was the problem.

Can anyone recommend a DVD-RW dual format/dual layer drive that will work without issues with the nvidia ide drivers?
