WinXP SP1 question

Is SP1 the only update that needs to be installed for a fresh WinXP installation? Does it include all the other updates?

Yes it does, my understanding on this is that sp1 includes all the other updates that came before it, so it is the only one that needs to be installed.

If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me on this.

After updating with SP1, go bake to the MS Upsate page ans see if there are any more updates that you are missing.

There have been a number of Win XP updates since SP1 was released. When installing SP1 make sure you are logged onto your ISP as SP1 installs it will auto download updates for SP1 as it installs. Also a number of critical updates one should download and install after installing SP1.

I installed SP1 in XP Pro and it downloaded several newer files as it installed.

With my computer SP1 was a super success. It made my computer run faster and I had zero problems installing it.

With SP1 installed it becomes easier to uninstall some Windows components you do not use. See PC Magazine November 1992 issue to find all kinds of ways to modify Windows from Win98, ME and XP and even for Win 2000.

There are a few post-SP1 security updates available:

MS02-050 : Certificate Validation Flaw Could Enable Identity Spoofing (Q328145)
Download

MS02-054 : Unchecked Buffer in File Decompression Functions Could Lead to Code Execution (Q329048)
Download

MS02-055 : Unchecked Buffer in Windows Help Facility Could Enable Code Execution (Q323255)
Download

Not sure what VM version SP1 ships with, but this might apply also:

MS02-052 : Flaw in Java VM JDBC Classes Could Allow Code Execution (Q329077)

It contains most of the updates and fixes, however you know with Microsoft they will always bring out newer updates etc,btw if you`re going to do a clean install of XP ,why not go and make a slipstream version(XP with SP1 ),go here for on how to do it. .
