WinXP SP1 and 60Hz refresh Fix...

For those, like me who were expecting the new SP1 for WinXp to fix the refresh rate problem will be sadly disappointed. W2S have an article up on their site which states that games that use the DirectX API have had the refresh problem fixed, however, Microsoft have not fixed the problem if a game uses OpenGL for instance. Therefore we are still stuck at 60Hz refresh.

This has kind of annoyed the hell outta me at the moment. I'm kinda lost for words and need to calm down a little. To me, this is just blatant disregard to their customers and kinda stinks.. :|:disgust:

I wasn't expecting much for any refresh rate fix for XP after applying SP3 for Win2k (w/c was supposed to address the same issue).

I'm glad there are those 3rd party utils to fix these problems.

[sarcasm]

(m5) obviously can't be bothered to fix such a trifle of small thing such as 75hz in d3d and 60hz in ogl.

[/sarcasm]

Business customers don't play games so it's hardly surprising. They don't seem to care as much for consumer problems.

However, everyone uses Windows Explorer so if they didn't fix the folder view bug then they're idiots.

So there is no Optimal refresh rate setting like Win9x/ME had? WTF is Microsoft NOT doing? This sucks. We need OPTIMAL refresh setting, so it automatically sets the highest refresh rate for each resolution. Having to use 3rd party programs suck!

I have found Refresh Force to be the perfect little program to permenantly fix the refresh problem. You can set all the resolutions your monitor will support to a specific refresh rate, apply it once, and then forget about it. It really works and is so simple to use unlike other tweakers out there. The refresh rate has not even been an issue since I used this. So who cares about SP1 fixing this problem. Works in any application. I could hardly believe my eyes when it worked. I have used it on a number of computers with the same success. I highly recommend!!!!

Looks similar to NVRefreshTool. Probably the best fix since MS and video card makers are unwilling to work out a real solution.

Optimal never set the highest in Win9x and I found it was never actually optimal anway, it often meant 75Hz. In fact, I do not want the highest because that is not always optimal. Some refresh rates cause more annoying noise pitches. Personally, I do not want an unknown setting. Rage3D Tweaker allows extensive configuration. Otherwise RefreshLock is good. I have not used XP enough to experience any problems. No problems in 2000 though. Only OpenGL games without thier own settings required an override since it does not use the desktop refresh like DirectX usually does. If DirectX did not it includes its own override anyway. So really I do not know what all the fuss is aboot.
