WinXP says graphics card won't start after video driver install

Title kind of says it all. I'm trying to install a geforce mx 200 on an ECS k7s5a motherboard in winxp home sp2. The sis agp driver is installed, directx 9 is installed. I get an error message at the end of the install process saying the card could not be started... I've tried a couple driver versions and the default microsoft nvidia drivers, but they never install correctly.

Any ideas?

thanks,
slim

MrChad,

The mx200 is original hardware that has worked fine for him for 2 years. They didn't know there was a problem until their daughter installed a game that required 3d acceleration and wouldn't run. I'm going to try putting a different vid card in this weekend to see if it will install ok. The reason I posted this problem is that I had never seen windows say it could not start a graphics card after installing drivers for it. It clearly works to some degree in 2D, and dxdiag will run a few diagnostics.

Is there anything else I should check drivers wise other than the sis agp patch, directx and nvidia drivers?
