I decided to remove the Intel Application Accelerator and now each time I boot WinXP, BSOD upon reaching the desktop. I've tried booting to the 'safe mode', same result.

Any ideas?

Don't remove the Intel Application Accelerator after you are done re-installing? :) If you're crashing on bootup in Safe Mode, sounds like Repair the OS time to me.

You removed your IDE controller drivers and now the OS can't find the hard drives, this is suprising?

Anyway you should be able to boot from the XP CD, add the drivers and do a repair install. If that doesn't work it looks like you'll be reinstalling everything.
