I have set up a WinXP laptop to use RAS to connect to the company network. It works well, i can surf the net just fine, but i cant see the network, nor can the network see me. I have installed file and print sharing and all the permissions in the RAS server(Shiva) are correct, but it will not see the network, which is mainly Windows NT4, including the Primary and backup domain controller. It is as if WinXP will not connect to the Domain.

help!

You should make sure that the XP box is configured to use WINS and NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
When you RAS in I am assuming you pull all your TCP/IP info from DHCP or the RAS (whichever way it is configured). Check the infor to make sure you are pulling a WINS server address and that the node type is correct

WINS has been set to both the primary and backup, and DHCP is pulled over RAS.

<< Ok, so that checks out. Is NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled? >>

that was the problem. Normally our network needs this disabled, but for XP it must be enabled. This only created a new problem, though. Now XP cant mount the hard drive, typical. 🙂

Thank you for the help, time to repair the HDD.
