I have "Tools/Folder Options/View/Restore previous folder windows at login" enabled in WinXP so when I boot up, the last folders that were open when I previously shut down, will open. But I have one folder that is always open when I boot up that I did not have open when I previously shut down.
How can I fix this?

I had this problem, fixed it by doing this:

Start -> Run -> "msconfig". Enclose program paths in quotes (" ") for every entry in the Startup tab. Reboot, and see if that's fixed it. There's many more ways of doing this, but this seems to be the easiest so far!

It's late & maybe I'm missing something. My msconfig has Startup Item, Command, and Location columns, and no edit tab. Can you please explain a little more how to do this? And why does it fix it?

Ah, my apologies. Start -> Run -> "regedit". Navigate to the HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key and make the changes to the values (not the Keys) there.

IIRC, Microsoft's Knowledge Base said it was something to try when I was searching for my problem; worked perfectly. If that doesn't fix it, then see if you can rename or move that folder (say, uninstall that program and then reinstall in a slightly different location) to stop it happening.
That might fix it.

Awesome. That worked. Thanks! I narrowed it down to one entry:
Name=TkBellExe , Value Data="C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe -osboot"
The folder that kept opening up was "C:\Program Files\Common" (not "Common Files").

I have 'unRealOne' installed, which I think put this entry there. Supposedly with Real One Player, it'll put it there whenever it's run, even after you've deleted it. I was able to delete the entry it and so far it hasn't come back. I don't even have the realsched.exe on my system.

I've been meaning to try Real Alternative. Hopefully it won't put an entry there.
