winxp recycle bin won't empty

i try to empty it but it tells me the folder in the recycle bin is not empty and so it won't empty it...

i cant' even delete it from a command prompt...actually, i haven't tried safe command prompt tho (will now)

also, is there an equivalent 'deltree' command for winxp/2k???

edit: del/s is the equivalent, non?...

i have the same problem on XP every so often. a reboot usually fixes it for me.

i wish...reboot doesn't work

if i try deleting the file from command line, windows pops up a msg telling me that the cdm.exe file is corrupt (the command line executable file)

restore the file and hold shift when you delete to bypass recycle bin

or even goto the bin's properties and make it not store files at all and send them straight to hell

tried that, doesn't work..

moreover, the recycle bin doesn't show the file in it anymore...when i navigate to the recycler directory, it shows the directory (w/ nothing in it), but won't let me delete it for the same reasons

didn't work under admin in safe mode command prompt either.

ahhhh yes....what have we come to when you can't even delete a file within the OS anymore?

run a chkdsk and make sure the file system isn't corrupt.

did that...ten times...everything's ok.

guess i'll always have at least one file in the good ol' piece of ass recycle bin...that is, until i nuke the hdd eventually...

if its fat32 boot off a win98 boot disk and see if U can delete it. if NTFS, the easiest way is to pop the HDD in another computer and delete it from there. Or use one of many 3rd party utils to read/delete it from a dos prompt.

can't delete it from a dos prompt since the partition is NTFS...

the last resort would be to find a 3rd party prog that could nuke files more effectively, or, as u suggested, delete it when it's a non-OS partition/drive.

or nuke the entire drive...which i'll probably end up doing anyway - it's been a while.
