WinXP reboot needed for SIMS play!?!

Hi there,

First of all, first post, hooray for me!!!

My problem is that everytime I want to play The Sims, or Tiger Woods 2002 for that matter, I have to reboot XP! Anybody got any thought on why this is happening?

My system:
Tbird 1200@1350
512 cas2 pc133 (2x256)
WD 80g 7200 rpm; WD 12G 7200rpm
MSI Geforce2 MX

Thanks in advance

Can you give us a little more info. Like y do you think you have to reboot (Will it not load or will it say you need to reboot 😛, or what???)? What all is running when you try to play it. Hopefully these are legal versions.

hi there,

yes they are all legal versions...my wife is a SIMS-maniac and has everyone ever made and I dig the Tiger games. What happens is that the game starts to run and then it kicks you back to the desktop. Sometimes the app will run in the taskbar but when you click on it you get a black screen and then it goes back to the desktop and eventually the game dies of its own volition. If I reboot everything is fine when I run the games. Also there are no other apps running which is what is sooooo weird with these games.

thx again

It seems like the only thing that booting would fix is clearing out memory. Is there any kind of service or app. that runs in the background that could be leading to a memory hole? (screen saver or anything like that)

When you re-boot, do you do it with the CD in the reader? If so, maybe that is a clue.

but I gotta agree that is a strange issue..... 😕

hmm, the only things running in the background are Gator, and AVG. I actually manually turned off some services (services.msc) to try to gain some additional memory but to no avail.

I'm thinking that a fresh install of XP may be in order as something must have gotten into the system over the past year. :disgust: :frown:

...not that the SIMS have ever run completely well with either 2000 or XP as the program always has caused crashes but at least it used to start up well with 2K.

hey Muscavado . my wife is also a sim nut. i have 3 gigs of downloads i have to be careful of if i mess with her comp. do you have any of the expantion packs or patches ? the original had issues with XP. i think the first expansion (living large) will help . if not do a fresh install of the sims with the expansion.
game runs perfect here under XP with all the expansions installed.
good luck
