WinXP + Radeon = 3d problems

I'm running WinXP pro with a Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO graphics card. Recently, when I try to go into some games that use 3d acceleration, the game crashes. So far this has happened in Max Payne and Arcanum. In Max Payne, I would skip the into movie, then it would go to the loading screen. After the loading was complete, I get a black screen. In Arcanum, I get a black screen about 10 seconds into the game. I've already upgraded to the latest WinXP drivers from ATI and I've installed the most recent drivers and AGP drivers for my motherboard (VIA KX133 chipset), and the problems still occur. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

You might wanna try the unofficial 3281 drivers from Rage3d

I use them and haven't had any problems yet, although I don't have any of the games you mentioned.
