Hi,

My problem is that when I click in the link of one internet page I can not view it, it tries to open the window, but it stays that way. This happens also in outlook and outlook express. I can not reply to the private messages or view users profiles also. I downloaded netscape and this does not happen in nestscape. I also can not update windows xp through windows update, it swows a window that is ready to download, but stays there forever. I have installed WinXP SP1.

Any help appreciated.

I reccomend going to microsoft and check ie site for updates. It seems like I remember seeing a service pack out for ie.

Hi,

I have the IE SP1 installed also, this begun to happen a few days after the WinXP SP1 install.

Thanks for the reply.

Try replacing these two files

url.dll
oleaut32.dll

they are located in the C:\windows\system Directory, if they are not located in that directory, do a search for them and replace them with known working ones,

If you do a search on google you should be able to find them. If not let me know and I will send them to you, they are pretty small files.

I found those files, but when I try to restore them, it gives an error that the files may be in use by another process. I've tried it in safe modeand the command prompt. Is there a way to access files in WinXp without loading windows?

Thanks.

if your using a fat32 partition you can boot from a 98 boot disk or a dos boot disk, if you have NTFS as your file system you are going to need to:

Right Click on "my computer"
go to properties
go to the Hardware Tab
there should be a Driver Signing Button
Click on it and you will get a Driver Signing Options box pop up
click warn or ignore and then click ok,

try that, if that doesn't work I will find the way to do it in XP.....

I don't know if replacing thoughs files is good or bad but you could do it by booting from the WinXP disk. Then select the option to fix you computer. From there you should be able to do anything you need to.

I converted the NTFS partition to fat32 and booted with a win98 disk, replaced the files, then uninstalled WinXP SP1 and still have the same problem.

Thanks all for the replies, I'll post an update here if I can fix my WinXP problem.
