WinXP problem...(i think) any help please

my processor crapped out last week.
went ahead and got a new MSI K7T266PRO system board and AMD T-Bird 1.4ghz.

everything installed and boots up, but when it gets to the XP login window the keyboard and mouse do not work. they are functional up to that point in the boot process however, so not sure what the conflict might be. i tried the keyboard and mouse through both the PS2 and USB ports and it did the same thing both ways.

please HELP! i've been a week on dialup with my backup system, and no Soldier of Fortune 2, i'm getting grumpy.

Can you boot into safe mode (When you start to see activity after your BIOS screens, press F5). Within safe mode, you might be able to delete your Keyboard and mouse components, although I have noticed that XP seems to be much better at removing hardware/drivers for components that are not present, and then re-adding when necessary.

(right click My Computer, select Manage, select Device Manager, and then look for & delete keyboard & mouse)

Yeah, it'd be best to do a fresh install with your new motherboard. I've heard a TON of stories from friends who ran into the same problem. They just assumed if they hooked up their HD, everything would work fine.......of course not. After a fresh isntall, though, there were no problems. Have fun backing up stuff, though! Good luck!

yup, running on a fresh install now. that fixed ALL of my problems....and this thing is cookin!

XP Pro
AMD 1.4Ghz
MSI K7T266 Pro2 systemboard
Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro 64mb
512mb DDR ram
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound
