Hi

Did any one tried to load Windows XP Pro x64 onto a SIS based Motherboards with the Integrated Video.

Like the AOpen s760GXm-S or the Foxconn 760GXK8MB-ERS

I need to know whether it would load as is or need more drivers.

In general terms.

I need to install few Win XP x64 computers for networking experiments.
I Do not care about SLI, PATA, SATA, Over Clocking, or an agile graphic.

I am just looking for an Inexpensive integrated Mobo (with Video and LAN) that would load WinXP Pro x64 as is without spending time to Hunt for Drivers.

IF you are having a problem with video drivers, then I would not rely on SIS providing anything any time soon for 64bit. Your best bet is to get a $30-$60 nVIDIA or ATI card and get the unified 64bit drivers

Thanks for your reply Googer.

I edited the original post, I do not have the Mobo that I mentioned above.

I am in a stage of looking for an "Easy" installation Mobo.

Can't argue with that statement. But If you already have a motherboard, get an ATI Rage 3d based video card. Because they are used in so many servers as the defacto graphics chip the drivers have had time to mature and 64bit should be avlavble by now for those servers running 64bit applications.

Thanks guys for the info it helps me to narrow it down.

A low cost 745 Motherboard for AMD Athlon 3000+ with or without Integrated Video that would load Win Pro x64 from the install CD as is.

As an Example if some one tried the ECS K8M800-M2 with Win XP x64.

Mobo goes for $69 + Athlon 3000 $150 = $220.

That motherboard is a Socket 754 and the Athlon 64 3000 is a Socket 939 so it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the reply NightCrawler.

Did you tried the RS480-M (the one in your previous post) with WinXP x64?

The articles that I have read mention that Win XP x64 is actually derived from the Server 2003 codebase instead of the Win XP codebase, so XP 64 very likely has great built-in driver support for the Rage chips you mentioned.

No but I did email then with a request about the ability to install x64 trouble free and fully operational with "all" the motherboard features.

Jack that is expensive! Paying more money for less computing power...... Bad advice if you ask me.

A socket 939 motherboard can be had for $70 and a Winchester 3000+ can be had for $140. A savings of $60 and a faster more upgradeable system as well.

Nforce3 is $7 more if you wish, but these are said to be decent chipsets.

CPU- $146 Retail AMD 3000+ Winchester, OEM is $3 less and does not have a warrenty or Heatsink/Fan

AMD 3200+ is $190 not too much more and is still with in the allowed budget you set.

As far as I can tell from Searching the Internet it seems that some Mobos based on Inter and VIA chipset are loading WinXP x64, while ALI and SIS chipset might Not.

I need few systems for Network related experiments thay would involve few more people.

That is why I am concerned about drivers and cost and need to know for sure.

If any one already loaded Windows XP x64 and a plain vanilla system loaded As Is please post the name of the Mobo.

By plain Vanilla I mean the On board Chipset, USB, LAN. and Audio.

Thanks.

My issue is not just building a Win XP x64 system for my own use (I can do it easily for myself).

I would like to find a Mobo that loads with no problem as is, so I would have a plain Vanilla system that can be safely recommended to others.

Finding what works and what is not working is the main goal of such a system.

OK.:(

I give up on a specific group of Boards.

Please post any Motherboard that would take Windows XP x64 as is without the need to search for drivers.
