WinXP Pro Problems....

I have Windows XP Pro installed on my box. It has run perfectly for about a month but I have run into a problem when using any install program using Windows Installer & my cd rom. When installiing applications from my cd-drive or dvd drive I recieve errors when installing the application. This is rather odd becuse I've tried 3 seeratre programs along with two differnt drives.

I read & copy information from CDs along with copy information of the cd. Doesn't matter if I run from the cd drive or the hard disk. There seems to be an issue with windows installer.

Here is one of the errors I recieve when it gets to 13% of the install:
Error 1

Here is the error when I try to install C&C Generals:
Error in C&C General 1
Error2
(I just noticed that this program uses install shield.)

Does anyone have any ideas? Because I'm out of them, I'm read to just back my stuff up & do a reinstall.

It really sounds like there is something wrong with your CD-ROM. CRC errors are almost always bad media or a bad CD-ROM. Were both drives you tried on the same IDE channel? Maybe something wrong with that IDE channel?

I have had problems with Windows installer before and I had to search for the installer and reinstall the installer. I know sounds funny but true. I just can't remember where I got it but I would try googling it to see if you get hits.

You can't reinstall the Windows Installer on XP. XP comes with Windows Installer 2.0 already. If there is something fubared with the Windows Installer service then open up a command prompt and type sfc /scannow. Have your XP Pro CD ready.
