WinXP Pro: My system has no security?!?

This is might just be a me thing but...

1. When I boot my WinXP Pro system, I'm not prompted to choose an account or use a password. It just jumps right in. I want security like on my Win2k system where I have to press Alt-Ctrl-Del then enter valid account info to log in. I've played around with it for a bit of time, but no luck on beefing things up.

2. My screen saver when password enabled is happily turned off by pressing enter at the password prompt. (i.e. why not ask for my password before letting me back in?)

I'm sure I'm missing the logic behind the madness. I've tried a few FAQs and MS PowerToys already. Can anyone help?

you have to create a password. it defaults to blank password (yeah, thats dumb, but home users want convenience as #1, then security). its in the control panel, under users/accounts, click an account then "create password"

CTho9305 - Good idea, but I tried that already. My error message was "Windows cannot change the password." note: I'm the administrator and only user.

Psychoholic - I'll try that.
