Winxp pro install trouble

Man I have never had this much trouble with a pc install, bad motherboard, bad processor, I get those replaced and now this. During Windows xp install it gets to the point where it says Setup is now loading windows (this is about two minutes into beginning of install) and it hangs there. I'm going to try to redo the thermal grease on heatsink to make sure it's not freezing from overheating but what else could cause this?

Maybe it's having trouble detecting your hard drive. One glitch lately seems to be people using a Western Digital and not setting it to Single Drive mode when it's on a cable by itself (look at the label, I think most of the time you pull the jumper off altogether for single drive). You might want to post a full rundown of your system so people can have more to go by.

It could very well be your ram, I"ve had problems with bad ram causing os installations hanging before.

Remover everything except video, ram, cpu. Now try reinstalling it. The WD jumper thing should not pose a problem.

Already done the things mentioned. I tried it with only cpu ram and video card to begin with and it posted. I took out the heatsink and cleaned it and the processor off and reapplied and that seemed to fix it. I'm posting from it right now p. Thanks for the suggestions though.

You haven't listed any hardware. Do you have the hard drive connected to like a promise card or a secondary onboard controller. If the answer is yes you will need a floppy driver disk and press f6 when you first boot the xp cd.

LOL no, pretty basic setup. 60gb Maxtor drive (the one with the fluid bearings forgot the drive model), 756mb crucial pc2100 memory, Gainward Geforce Ti300, Toshiba dvd-rom drive, lite-on 24/10/40x cdrw, Athlon 1700xp+, linksys nic, ThermalRite Sk-6 copper cooler, floppy drive, and four case fans in an antec full tower case with the pp303x 300w switching power supply. Like I said it's fixed with a new motherboard and reinstalling one of the old processors I have since the athlon xp2000+ I had was bad.
