WinXP Pro - Install Problem - Cant find HD!!!

Need help, folks. I just cant install Win XP Pro in my computer, it keeps telling me that it just cant find my HD!! Here is the story:

I formatted my HD using fdisk and format. All right.

Then I installed WinME (this was the first time I tried to install WinXP; later I became smarter and tried a clean install). All right.

Then I tried to install WinXP Pro. There came the first blue stop error message. Something saying that it could not acess the hd and with the following codes: 0x0000007B (0xF9E8563C, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

So, after retrying, scanning the hd, reformatting it and whatever, I tried a clean installation, booting the WinXP Pro CD. And then, again, I got the same stupid error, it cannot find the HD.

Please help me!

Oh, here is my computer: Soyo 6BA+IV motherboard, PIII 800, 256 MB SDRAM, WD 20Gb HD (ATA 66), GeForce 2 GTS 32MB.

I read somewhere that it could be related to the GeForce2. Anyone knows anything?

Regards from Brazil,

Kiko

Did you hit "F6" to load the drivers for your highpoint ATA-66 controllers? (I think your motherboard has 'em). Be careful which drivers you use (as well as which bios you have for your motherboard and the controller). My Abit has the highpoint 366 controllers and it requires a right combination of mb bios, controller bios and drivers. Try with the latest bios for your motherboard, controller and the latest drivers for the controller. Remember to hit F6 when XP asks you to do so at the beginning of the installation (look at the bottom of the screen).

Thanks for your response Doh! I could not find mb or controllers BIOS and drivers specific for XP. And, further, my mb and HD were working ok before I tryesd to install WinXP.

Anyway, I have downloaded from Soyo the latest BIOS and the Win2K driver. Is that a good guess?

win2k drivers for the controller will work (high-point doesn't have a XP-specific drivers yet but I've used win2k drivers for my motherboard w/o any problems). I think I've used 1.25 drivers.

IMPORTANT: When you insert the floppy to install the high-point drivers, XP will ask you if you want to use the default drivers included in XP. Choose to install the drivers from the floppy (I think pressing "S"). You'll get messages about the drivers not being XP-certified but just hit "yes" to continue with the installation. If you let XP install its default drivers, the problem of not detecting the hard drive will occur again.

You said Soyo? There's an updated Promise controller on the CD, but you need to get it onto diskette in order for the F6 to let you install it. I also had problems with IDE3 and 4 on my SOYO, so I gave up and have 4 devices master/slaved on IDE1 and 2

The promise controller drivers will NOT work. His motherboard does not have any promise controllers, only high-point controllers. Just because your Soyo motherboard has promise controller, it doesn't mean that his motherboard would have it also (Soyo makes more than one motherboard model). Do not install the promise controllers.

You could've resolved the IDE 3 & 4 problems by having the right bios & drivers (better hd performance than ATA-33 you're using).

Thanks a lot, Doh!! It all worked just fine, I got the highpoint drivers (win2k 1.26 drivers) and it solved my problem, just like you said.

Regards,

Kiko

Theres beta drivers for the HPT366 & WinXP, although I didnt have problems with the win2k drivers, I figured id be better off with these, no problems with the beta drivers & my 6BA+IV either.
