So I guess I need to install a 3rd party driver (MS's SP1 IDE driver) so that I can install Winxp Pro to a 200gig drive. I can see all 200 gigs in teh bios, but xp install only comes up with 137 or something like that. Anyone had experience installing to 1 200 gig partition, or am I stuck dividing this thing up? It's too late at night, and I spent too much time getting a damn floppy drive to flash my bios in the firsrt place to dick with this anymore. Thanks for help/advice in advance.

well, it's a pain in the ass, but you just have to install to a small partition and then extend it. I thought it would be as big a pain in the ass as nt 4 was with > 4gig partitions, but it wasn't.

I think you're right sid, WinXP is supposed to be capeable of using any size hard drive, as long as the MoBo has the proper BIOS.

Windows XP does not support 48bit LBA without SP1. My bios was flashed to the latest official Epox 8KHA+ bios so that it detected a 200 gig drive. Windows XP without service pack 1 will not detect the full drive. You have to install xp, install sp1, then extend the partition. If you have XP with SP1 slipstreamed into it, it probably will support it though if it has the updated atapi.sys.

this link also gives a reg hack to enable it, but i just installed sp1, it was easier

Does this also effect RAID setups? I just installed XP onto a 160gb setup and it installed to the full partition...then I installed Sp1...?

I think raid is different because you still have two 80 gig drives, so it's only addressing 80 gigs per drive.
