WinXP Pro can't log off or shutdown

I can't get the computer to shutdown/logoff/restart besides physically disconnecting the power. Ctrl+alt+del doesn't bring up any screen. I have to access task manager via running taskmgr.exe from the run line. I terminated the svchosts to iniate a OS shutdown, NT Authority 60 sec type, which I have never seen fail, but it does. This computer just cannot be shutdown. I am at a loss anyone else seen this or have a fix? There are no errors displayed just no response from any shutdown type action.

HELP!

SVCHOSTS.exe (plural) is a pretty serious Trojan. SVCHOST (singular) is a Windows system process. Which one are you actually killing?

SVCHOSTS is a keylogger, I believe, so if you've done any online banking or online shopping you may want to take action to ensure you're ok.

Get a router, run anti-spywre, run anti-virus.

meant just the svchost process. No trojans on here, my inet is locked up tighter than *insert colorful analogy here*. Thanks for the heads up though.
