I have a Window XP Home Edition PC with two printers hooked up to it on a network with two other Windows ME machines. In WinXP, I have the printers shared and before you ask, yes I do have a software firewall installed but it does not matter, I uninstalled it and the problem still occurs. Here's the deal, when I try to add the printers to the ME machines with the Windows ME add printer function, the printers will not show up when I browse the network. To set-up the printers on the ME machines I have to add them locally, then I manually go into the printer path and change them to point at the XP machine. This works and I can print through the network from the ME machines, it is just annoying because it makes adding the printers a pain. It's not like I'm adding printers to the network all the time but does anyone know why I having trouble seeing them when I browse the network?

Do you have an account setup on the xp machine for the other machines. Example If you log onto the me box as joe you have to have an account on the xp box named joe. Are you with me?

One other thing when you open the network properties on the me box ( I forget how it is worded exactly ) there is a box that has the type of logon. I think the normal setting is windows logon. I think this needs to be set to microsoft networking.

Hope this helps.
