WinXP Powerdown?

Is there some setting or something I need to do to get WinXP to power off the computer after shutdown? It just sits there at the "It's OK to turn off your system" screen and then I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to get it to turn off. Really annoying. This worked for me fine in Win98 and WinME. What's up with XP?

Go under Control Panel -> Power Options -> APM and make sure that the 'Enable Adv. Power Management Support' box is checked.

Turning on this option will allow the computer to shut down on its own, and I believe that this option is disabled by default.

If it's an Apollo Pro 133A chipset....not uncommon problem. APM enable/disable doesn't fix it for me....

Thanks BlueWeasel, that fixed it for me. BTW - I've got a KT266A so I'm assuming this works for all those MB's.

I had this problem, a BIOS update fixed the problem for me.

I've got the same problem. I'm running an older 440BX motherboard. If I enable the APM, instead of sitting at the "It's now safe..." screen, it just reboots the sytem.

Any other suggestions?
