WinXP media player and divx movies...

I just installed WinXP. Then I installed the divx3.11 codec and then the divx4.12 codec and answered no when it asks if you want divx4.12 to play all divx3.11 content. This is what I did when I had win2000 and I could watch every *.avi files. Now, some files are fine, but some I only hear sound no picture. Anyone know how I can fix this? I know the files aren't corrupt or anything cuz I was able to watch them when I had win2k. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

in media player, go to tools->options then on the first tab (i think) untick "download codecs automatically." also, my particular method which always works is to install 4.12 first, hit "no" on play all 3.x content with 4.x, then install 3.11alpha. you should be fine, altho i recommend playing divx in WMP unless they show up as "songs" in which case i would use the Playa to play them (as they are most likely 4.x divx.

'download codec auto...' will nv solve the problem.... MS doesn't hav the Divx codec on their server database......

do this.....
first download the Nimo's codec pack....
go device manager -- > under 'sound....' ---> 'Video Codec' --- > delete all video codec except one which windows doesn't allow
restart.......
install the Nimo pack....
then upgrade to Divx 4.12 ...

trust me.. it works....😉
