WinXP load causes system to reboot

Recently I moved my computer to a new apartment and at first everything worked just fine.

The other day when i reset the machine it would not start winXP. It would go through all the regular BIOS startup and then it qould give me a flashing undercursor before it goes to the "Windows Did Not Startup Correctly Last Time" where you have the options of Safe Mode, SM w/ Networking, SM w/ console, Last Known Configuration, and Start Windows. Any of the "Safe Mode" options show you all the files loading...the gives you the option to hit "Esc" to cancel loading "xmasbus.dll". Whether you hit esc or let it load it immediatly reboots the machine. If You select "Last Known..." or "start Windows" it immediatly reboots as well.

I tried booting from the Windows XP cd to repair the installation...all went fine but when itasked for my product key I entered it in andafter clicking 'reboot' my machine restarted itself.

A few times after several reboots it gave me a screen that said "Overclocking failed, press F1 to load BIOS Defaults and continue or F2 to enter setup". When I selected F2 it would load windows fine like normal. But When I restart it's back to the same.

If I try to go into BIOS Setup and set the default, this does not let me load into Windows.

I haven't gotten Windows to load the past 2 days as I had previously.

Thanks!!

Give us your system specs, your overclocking specs, etc.

Sometimes, overclocking can corrupt your windows. It happened to me before, and was posted here before, so reformat and install windows w/ default BIOS will obvious fix it heh...donno, just a suggestion hehe

oh I forgot to say...I DIDN'T overclock which is what is weird.

I have a k8v Deluxe motherboard, AMD 64 3000+ cpu, GeForce 5900, 1024 RAM

Check your RAM to make sure it is not the problem. Bad RAM can cause all manner of similar problems. I assume you have two sticks, if so, try one at a time and see if that resolves the issue. You can also run memtest to test your RAM.

Freak,

Are you running Alcohol?
If so, you might find this interesting?

Better yet, this sheds alot of light on the subject.

BTW... Welcome to the Forums.

If nothing works try clearing the bios via the mother board jumper. this will completely clear the settings and allow you
to start from scratch.
