Hey guys, im having a huge problem. WHenever i use internet explorer, it works fine up until i click on a link & a new window opens, then that one begins to load and then freezes. Then both won't Respond. I've tried Windows Update, i've tried uninstalling & reinstalling IE 6 & that hasn't worked.

any ideas?

XP Pro btw

Clear cookies, temporary internet files, reset the web settings and restore the default advanced settings... see if that does anything

Are you using other invasive programs at the same time? BlackICE Defender used to cause crazy lockups on my dad's system when he used IE. Maybe Norton antivirus is causing that to happen. Windows is crazy (but you already knew that, right?).

when IE crashes like that, you have to reinstall XP normally. the same thing happened to my roommate.

either one should work i believe but i never like to install over another OS. i prefer to format first always.

Just for posterity's sake, is this a retail/oem version of Windows XP or some "bastardized" version?

I'd recommend reinstalling things. Best to start from scratch.

Same thing started happening a few weeks ago on my dual-proc XP box. I assume some file has become corrupted. I did reinstall IE6 using the procedure recommended by Microsoft (sorry, lost the link) but it didn't help.

Thankfully, it's not a big deal for me since I switched to Mozilla for 99% of my browsing several months ago. And it doesn't happen on every IE launch, either.
