The speaker on the enclsoure is indeed capable of sound, albeit of a rather poor quality. You are probably confusing that with the onboard speaker on the motherboard. Those are typically limited to beeps and squeels.

i have the manual. i plugged the case speaker into the mobo like the manual says. even swapped it incase i got pin 1 wrong. no sound either case

In the old days of DOS, there were programs that played songs thru that speaker.
As it was supported by BASIC programming software.

You used the AUDIO2 Front Panel Audio Header (P. 20 of manual / P. 24 of the PDF) and not the SPK1: Internal Speaker Header (P. 10 of manual / P. 14 of the PDF), right?

no, i used spk1 from page 10. on page 9, it says connect the case speaker to spk1.
isnt audio2 for front panel audio ports?
