WinXP Hardware Malfunction BSOD

In Windows XP I get a BSOD that says:

<< ***Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
***The system has halted***
>>

This occurs pretty much spontaneously. After it happens once, I will get it about 5 more times after windows loads (after restart), then eventually I will get into windows. I've noticed that it happens usually when I'm doing something involving sound (I have latest soundcard drivers). I had WinME before with the exact same hardware and never experienced this problem. I have the latest sound/video card drivers. I've searched the forums for help, some others have had this problem but I didn't see any real solution. I've also searched microsofts website, no luck. Please help! Here is the system I have:

P3 1ghz
256mb 800mhz RDRAM
Radeon 64mb VI/VO
3com NIC
Intel VC820 MoBo
Western Digital 20GB 7200rpm (c🙂
Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm (d🙂

Help!!!

Well duh. 🙂 I'm suggesting yanking the sound card to see if that really is causing the problem. If you yank the sound card and don't get the errors, then you know for a fact that it's an issue with your sound card.
