I just installed WinXP Prof on my system. Afterwards I installed my 2nd Hardrive (on the secondary IDE connector) and now when XP boots up it freezes up and doesnt get past the splash screen. Any suggestions?
Both are on seperate IDE connectors as Master with no slaves. Same config. worked fine with Win98.
Other useful Info:
1) My 2nd HD is a data HD that I have installed on my win98 (fat32) system. Just unplugged it when installing XP. When I plugged it back in the freeze began to occur.
2) I just upgraded my PSU to Antec 350wt
3) I tried putting it as slave behind main HD. Same result
4) My primay HD is formatted NTFS
5) BIOS does recognize both HDs when booting.
6) Maxtor Diagnostic Program did not recognize 2nd even though BIOS did. I plugged the 2nd in the Primary IDE connector and the diagnostic program did recognize it and ran test....error free.
7) MaxBlast also recognized both HDs.
I am running out of options. It sounds like a winxp problem. I would say it could be a IDE channel problem but the Bios does recognize them both in boot up stage.
Is it possible that jumpers can be wrong even though Bios recognizes both in boot phase?
thanks in advance.
