WinXP drives issue

I just built my new athlon system and put WinXP on it. I took my Plextor burner and Pioneer DVD from my old system (which also had XP and was working fine) and put them in this new one. Now for some strange reason, autrun/autoplay is not working on either drive, and in my computer the drives will not be updated/refreshed with the current contents of what's really in there (whether empty or full) until i reboot, then it just happens again. For example, if i have wolfenstein my DVD drive, and i take it out, my computer still says wolfenstein is in there even if i put in another CD, and autorun will not work. Any solutions to this? Thanks.
